Something calm and comforting
is beginning here in Haarlem

A new idea is slowly forming.

A small, natural, community rooted sauna space  inspired by the coastlines of the UK, the warm spaces of Brighton, the beautiful sauna culture in the Netherlands, and the generous people who’ve welcomed me into their heat.

It’s early days. I’m working hard to secure a location, but I have a vision I’m pursuing with care, curiosity, and excitement.

What Is Coorie Sauna?

Coorie is a Scottish word meaning to snuggle, nestle, find warmth, find comfort.
That’s the heart of this project.

A small-scale sauna experience built around:

  • natural materials

  • simple rituals

  • heat + cold

  • community

  • slowness

  • wellbeing that feels grounding, not flashy

The Journey So Far

To understand what makes a truly great sauna, I’ve been travelling, studying, listening, and learning.

  • Learning from builders, hosts, and heat experts

  • Understanding rituals, flow, and design

  • Discovering what makes a sauna feel alive

Every conversation has shaped the dream I’m working toward in Haarlem.

What I’m Aiming to Create

A cosy, natural, beautifully simple sauna by or near nature. A place where you can step away from the rush, breathe deeply, and feel held by warmth.

  • A handcrafted wood-fired sauna

  • Cold immersion

  • A rest area

  • Space for stillness, reflection, and connection

  • Sessions for individuals, small groups, neighbours, and community partners

Why I’m Doing This

Because warmth brings people together. Because we all need space to slow down.
Because my new home Haarlem deserves a small sanctuary of heat and nature.

And because I’ve seen and felt how saunas can heal, connect, and create community, in The UK, in The Netherlands, and everywhere people gather around warmth.

Values

  • collaborations with local makers, health practitioners, and creatives

  • inspiration drawn from the incredible sauna communities
    and most importantly:

  • a warm, welcoming space for people to return to again and again
